Incoll's Chris Adam Talks to 'The Project Manager'Wednesday, 10 March 2010 Chris Adam, Project Manager with our Melbourne office was featured in this months AIPM Monthly Magazine, The Project Manager. Since his commencement with Incoll May 2009, Chris has been committed to improving the success and efficiency of the Melbourne office's business development activities. He has also been promoting the fundamentals of Project Management by lecturing at Victoria University. INSIDE AIPM - Meeting Point (article)Organisation: Incoll ManagementWhat Industry do you work in?Incoll specialises in the management of major property developments providing advice from the initial investment, design and approval through to construction, occupation and handover. How long have you been in project management?Seven years in property and construction, four of those years in project management. Where do you see the future of project management?Project Management will become more regulated. Project management is an expanding and diversifying profession that will require greater emphasis on accreditation and training to ensure its integrity. A perfect example of this is the previous question, 'How long have you been in project management?' At what point do you officially become a project manager and how is this regulated within the industry. What acronym or meeting cliché do you never want to hear again? In the content of someone being asked to quantify the duration of an activity, 'How long is a piece of string?' The best thing about project management is:Being in ultimate control of a project, assembling a team of specialist and steering that team to successfully deliver project objectives to the satisfaction of the client. The worst thing about project management is:The underutilisation of lessons learnt. Greatest lesson learnt:Communication is the key; effective project planning and communication creates the framework for ultimate project success. Project success involves aligning project objectives with the broader business objectives of stakeholders. This article was first published in the February/March 2010 issue of The Project Manager, magazine of the Australian Institute of Project Management (www.aipm.com.au).
